Meet the Verpan Onion, a light that certainly lives up to its name. In fact, the design is inspired by the shape of an onion and, more specifically, a cross-section of an onion. The fixture of this pendant lamp is made up of a number of curved metal lamellae that mimic the lines inside an onion. A whimsical design that fits in perfectly with other works by the Danish designer Verner Panton.
The metal lamellae are curved during the production process. The final shape obtained through this process is asymmetrical, with the narrowest point at the top of the fixture. The lamellae become increasingly wider and form a spherical bulge in the middle, which contains the light source. At the bottom, the metal lamellae come closer together again, but the opening at the bottom remains much wider than that at the top. The metal bolts at the ends emphasise this asymmetry and form a beautiful, finishing touch.
The Onion casts an indirect light through the openings in the fixture. It is a comfortable light that looks best when a bright light source is used. The Onion collection includes three types of lighting fixtures: two pendant lamps, each of a different size, and a table lamp. The Verpan Onion Pendant is the smaller pendant lamp and is available in a white or silver colour.
