Tom Dixon Beat Light designer lamps

Tom Dixon Beat Light pendant lamps are hugely popular. You can find these in homes, hip bars, multi-starred restaurants and shops. But did you know that there are also floor and wall lamps in our Beat Light range? These have the same stylish appearance as the pendant lamps, but in a different package.

The story behind the Beat Lights

According to Tom Dixon, the Beat Light Collection is an exercise in “expressive minimalism”. Simple shapes that stand out due to the colour combinations and subtle details.

He was inspired by the traditional pots and pitchers of India. And that’s where these pendant lamps are made. The lamps are manufactured from solid brass plates. The production work is manual where craftsmen “beat” brass plates by hand (hence the name “Beat Light”). This process always leaves small dents and bumps that are visible on the inside, which gives character to the design.

The exterior has a black coating for the finish. It provides a nice contrast. Currently, there are variants of the Tom Dixon Beat Light with a brass, white or grey exterior. So there is something for everyone.

Four shapes

There are four different shapes in our Tom Dixon Beat Light collection.

The Beat Light Stout resembles a large water jar. The lampshade has a spherical design where the upper and lower halves are pressed flat. The Beat Light Tall has a slimmer profile. This pendant lamp consists of two cone shapes. There is also the Beat Light Wide. This model also has a cone shape, but one that is squashed such that the lampshade resembles a wizard’s hat. Finally, we have the Beat Light Fat model. The top of this shade has a conical shape, while the lower half is reminiscent of a ball.
