How many LED panels do I need to properly light my workspace?

Minimum amount of light for workspaces
Lighting regulation norms NBN-EN 124 64-1 and NBN EN 124 64-2 prescribe the following minimum amounts of light (measured on the work surface or in case of lack of surface measured on a height of 0.85m):
- 200 lux: Refters, changing rooms, agricultural activities, breweries, rough assembly work
- 300 lux: Bakeries, machine work, medium-precision assembly work, fruit sorting, laundries, welding, garages, receptions, photocopying, childcare facilities, classrooms, auditoria, sports halls
- 500 lux: emergency rooms, laboratories, control rooms, precision engineering, fine assembly work, car assembly, kitchens, slaughterhouses, product inspection, hairdressing salons, shoe factories, printing, weaving, woodworking, office work, meeting rooms
- 750 lux: Glass processing, material inspection, precision assembly, sewing, paint spraying, technical drawing
- 1000 lux: Precision work, colour inspection, jewellery production, medical examination rooms
In short: the more precise and accurate the work, the more light is needed.

Placement
The above luminance levels are measured on work surfaces. This is important for the placement of the LED panels. Suppose an LED panel is placed in the middle of the room, giving a light output of 500 lux at a workbench that is nearby. At another workbench that is 5 metres away in a corner, the light result may be much lower than 500 lux. So always ensure that lighting is matched to the position of the most important workstations.
Light colour
Functional lighting is important in workplaces. Ambient lighting is not necessary. Therefore, choose LED panels with a high colour temperature that produce a cold white light. This improves visibility. For office work, this functional aspect is less important. Here, you can choose a slightly lower colour temperature to create a more pleasant working environment.
