The lightness of being The organic forms and lightness of Mathieu Matégot’s designs exude a sense of joy. The pioneering and innovative techniques he used created a unique aesthetic. Matégot’s designs are centrepieces to this day. His legendary designs are shown in the permanent collection of the Vitra Design Museum and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, as well as at the Centre Georges Pompidou, National Museum of Modern Art and the Industrial Centre Beaubourg in Paris. Innovation Like many of his fellow artists, Mategot travelled the world in search of inspiration, techniques and materials. After his return he translated these impressions into his own unique designs. Mathieu Mategot was the first to use metal pipes combined with perforated metal plates. This new piece of workmanship became a trademark of the designer that he patented as “Ritigulle”. It it this combination of materials that characterises his work. Mathieu was a real innovator! Technique The so-called Ritigulle technique is Matégot’s invention. Perforated metal plate is processed into a thin, flexible material. The Satellite pendant lamp by Gubi uses this technique. It also has a lightness, transparency and elegance, which makes this design so beautiful. Light effect The groove-like waves of the lampshade have numerous small holes. That provides a pleasantly soft and atmospheric light. This pendant lamp casts a beautiful interplay of light and shadow on the walls and the floor, which creates a special atmosphere in every room. The Satellite has an elliptical “hat” that also acts as a reflector. The bulb-shaped lamp gives it a playful touch. More details The Satellite M lamp from Gubi consists of a large reflector and a lantern. The reflector is 45 cm long and 27 cm wide. The diameter of the lamp is 21.8 cm and the total height of the lamp is 31.5 cm. This pendant lamp comes with a 500 cm black textile cord. A light source can be ordered under accessories.
