First produced in 1947, the Gräshoppa unique posture gives the impression that the light is somehow alive and stalking its prey. The classic Cobra lamp from the 1950s was named because the oval lamp shade resembles the head of a cobra. The Swedish-born Grossman was strongly influenced by European modernism and influential architects like Walter Gropius (Bauhaus founder) and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Grossman, in turn, played a key role in defining the aesthetics of Californian modernism in the middle of the last century.
