From art to technology
Catellani & Smith saw the light in 1989 following a meeting that had taken place four years earlier. Carlo Catellani and Logan Smith had decided to join forces and start up a company specialised in the design of decorative lamps and other objects.
The brand also started out as a sort of art studio. Today, Catellani & Smith is one the pre-eminent brands in the lighting sector. They use the most advanced lighting technology in their designs.
Eye for detail
The Catellani & Smith designs are well thought out and finished in great detail. One element that regularly occurs in their designs is a golden lining on the inside of the lampshade. Excellent examples are the Stchu-Moon and the PostKrisi.
A unique high point for the company was when the Fil de Fer was chosen as an example of outstanding Italian design. The lamp was rewarded with a place in the Italian pavilion during the World Expo 2010, which took place in Shanghai.
A meticulous production process
A Catellani & Smith lamp is made using a meticulous production process. The final result is a combination of the designer's vision and the craftsmanship of the manufacturer.
