Design of Philips Hue Being

The Philips Hue Being is a simple, circular ceiling light. The circular, metal accents give it a luxurious look. Thanks to its simplicity, the Being fits perfectly in any interior.

Select your favourite light settings

Philips Hue offers you optimal light in four pre-installed light settings for your daily activities. ‘Energise’ surrounds you with cool, vivid light for an extra boost. With ‘Concentrate’ you can focus and work in precisely adjusted, clear white light. ‘Read’ gives optimal warm white light that does not overload your eyes - ideal for reading a good book. ‘Relax’ helps you de-stress with a soft glow of warm white light.

Set the brightness

Adjust the brightness of your Philips Hue lights easily and effortlessly via your mobile device, with no need for new wiring or a wall dimmer in your home.

Control your lights remotely

You can control your lights remotely, no matter where you are. Check while at work whether you have forgotten to switch your lights off before you left home. And as you drive up the driveway in the evening, your lights switch on automatically thanks to geofencing.

Take advantage of the easy controls

Control your lighting with a finger-swipe via the intuitive Hue app. You can control each light bulb separately, create and save your own scenes or use the pre-set lighting controls for an optimal Hue experience.

Great Philips Hue Ecosystem
After years of consideration to get Hue product, this is my very first Hue ecosystem I got. Sadly this product is not yet available in Singapore official store. (Though they said coming soon) Initially wanted to get white version but opt for alu version instead. (Still think the white is better.) Me and my partner choose this light for the following reason. 1.) Economical price range. (Didn’t count in shipping fees and GST charges because they are miscellaneous charges). 2.) Simple design. 3.) Is round as dope. 4.) My partner think is Macaroon that shines. (I agreed too.) I am currently still migrating my existing lights to Hue ecosystem. Already in consideration of getting another Hue products. More review to come. Previously was using some cheap China made LED lights that are brighter and produce more lumen compare to this product. But why? Because China LED repeatedly fuse or blown up easily. The cost of keep getting new set of LED light are just not worth for the economical run. Also, there is many though of switching my house to a smart home for couple of years. And ultimately I decided to get. Playing around with the apps and creating scene on my iPhone using HomeKit is awesome. Living home and coming back home, the light is already there for your warm welcome back. If really fun actually. The fact that coming home, you don’t have to bother about the light at all. Tho I am trying to fight my routine habit of turning off the switch whenever I leave my room. Installing is not that simple given how most Singapore common household wiring are laid outside covered in PCB casing and not in the wall itself. Luckily for this particular light, there is small gap between the ceiling and light. Is easier for the wire to go from the side instead out from the wall. Unlike most of the other Philip Hue products do not have any sort of gap for the wire to pass-tru from the side of the frame and which require you to heck the wall to let the wire get-tru underneath. For Singaporean out there considering to get this product, please take note that this light is not as bright as typical HDB 40watts light. Great for common HDB standard bedroom. If you need something brighter, look for 3000ml or higher. The product I received seem to be faulty. Some of the time, the light won't completely off. Once awhile have to nudge the light frame to completely turn off the light. Checked the wiring and IC chip. Didn't show any sign of abnormality. Sometimes the light stay 100% completely on even when using my iPhone or remote to turn off. Have to use the main switch to turn off whenever this happen. Probably just unlucky for me to get defective product. Otherwise, this will be a great product.

Fantastic Hallway Light
I initially tried to get hold of these lights in January 2017 but they were 'out of stock' everywhere! I tried to order through various retailers, including dmlights, but were told they were 'temporarily unavailable' and which they remained unavailable for 6 months. Recently I saw Phillips are going to re-brand this exact light, without the dimmer switch, and increase the price from £129 to £199. I thought this is my last chance so I snapped them up. This time they were in stock and delivered within 3 days. Delivery was efficient by dmlights with lots of packaging and 'fragile' written all over the box. I'm a big fan of phillips hue, owning several other hue lightbulbs and light strips. I live in a three story town house and wanted to update my ceiling lights in the hall and landing. I have young boy girl twins (3 years old) who are frequently out of bed in the night and navigating the stairs so a concern for me is their safety. I do have plugin wall lights but their location fails to shed light on the stairs so having a dimmable ceiling light was desirable. These lights are brilliant and do the job perfectly. I have a separate hue motion sensor installed to ensure the lights only come on when there is movement at night (very sci fi). Having the ability to control the starting brightness and duration is a nice touch from the app and ensures no sudden bright lights in the night and that they fade off when everyone is back asleep. In the night I have the light come on with a cool white glow which provide good visibility. In the evening before bed I prefer the softer warm white of around 2700k, typical of halogen lights. I've recently tried the new schedule where the lights randomly turn on and off when you are on holiday to deter criminals. It works well with the lights coming on at various brightnesses, and shades of white. My neighbours, who knew we were away, seemed a bit miffed but it did the job of implying someone was in the house! Fixing the lights to the ceiling was straight forward although make sure to make a note of the serial number before mounting. You'll need this to connect to the phillips hue hub and possibly again if you need to perform a factory reset. It was also a two person job as its difficult o attach the wiring whilst holding the light to the ceiling. Admittedly I was on a ladder, overhanging the stairs, with two kids wanting to 'help' but I'd recommend a friend to provide assistance. The last thing you want to do is scratch the aluminium or puncture the thinner mesh underneath the light. Once up the light looks a good size for a hall and fits snug to the ceiling. I imagine it could take a fair few knocks by 'flying dinosaurs' but I'm encouraging the kids not to try it. The remote dimmer is a nice addition although with the motion sensor I haven't really used it. I've fitted my dimmer to the wall above the existing light switch and the buttons are silent to touch and responsive. The gradual dimming is pleasant and I've not noticed any flickering. I did find the light on the third floor struggled to detect the hub, located on the ground floor. This could be a problem for owners larger homes or older properties with thick walls. To my knowledge there is no way to 'boost' the hub's signal. I opted for moving the hub. Overall I'm really pleased with this purchase. I'd researched these lights when they first came out and have wanted them for what seems like ages. I haven't been disappointed and my other half is impressed with my choice. A worthy edition to anyone who enjoys the flexibility of phillips hue and a good introduction to those that have yet to embrace the lighting revolution! They are not the brightest lights, certainly good enough for a hall but I wouldn't necessarily have them in a study. A single light in my opinion would also not be sufficient for a living room. This is common with LED's and the way the LEDs are arranged inside the light, around the circumference, means you'll not get any spotlight effect to work under.
  • Good quality finish.
  • Fair price considering you receive a dimmer.
  • Hue ecosystem
  • Limited range for wifi.
  • Not as bright as some would hope.
